Brother Gordon D. Speiser

 -1973-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officer's was held on December 16, 1972 and Lee Marigian was installing Organist and entertained with several selections on the piano. After the ceremony there were light refreshments served in the dining hall. On December 28th the Lodge stood in a moment of silence at the passing of Bro. Harry Truman, Late President and Past Grand Master of Masons.

In April before Lodge all present were treated to to a musical program by Kutner-Temperance School under the direction of Mr. Harline. On May 31st Brother David Murel Smith, received his third degree and on signing the bylaws became the 1000 person to do so since the inception of Clovis Lodge. Brother Howison, the Secretary, remarked that at least 2/3 of those signing had been in his years as Secretary.

On June 14th it was finally reported that the sign for the Clovis Chamber of Commerce sign on the highway into town was completed and could be seen when driving by. And this after only 15 months! :)

At the end of June brought another trip to Big Creek for the third degree of Brother Alan Burnham. It was performed by the Edison Company Degree team. Brother Burnham later went on to become Master of Clovis Lodge and has a list of achievements too long to mention even when space is not an issue.

In July Bro. Carl Smith was elected Junior Warden under a special election and was installed that same evening. In October it was decided to spend $200.00 on kitchen utensils and additions to the dishes.

In November it was decided by motion and vote to carpet the women's rest room. There is a theme to Clovis Lodge that I have noticed while going through the minutes of all of the years, and it is if the women want it, we normally find a way to get it for them...now if we could only talk them into wanting a new pool table!!! hehehehe

The annual Roll Call dinner was held on December 6th and the brethren lost to death this year were: Bro's Albert Napoleon Hamel, Thomas Jefferson Sawyer, William Deverse Wicker, Alfred Earl Reyburn, Gus John Diesslin, Clovis Roosevelt Mudersbach, Charles Oliver Starr, Elbert Lee Wooten, and Edward Jenkin.

Past Master Speiser is still very much a viable part of Clovis Lodge and attends quite regularly. He has been a source of support for many a member as well as serving several years as Secretary of the Lodge, President of the Building Association , and several other titles too many to mention. As of the year 2000 he has decided to slow down a notch before his wife , Mary, slows him down. We all feel the same way about Brother Gordon and that is our lives are much richer because of him.
